Vinyl Thumbnails

I decided to go freestyle on my thumbnails in my sketchbook! I started the process off with my favourite animals as a kid. I wanted to make shapes that were still recognizable but interesting to look at.

I eventually moved onto something that might represent me more, I wanted to incorporate my dual citizenship in Canada and America.
I then moved onto some artist inspirations of mine, and drew Toothless!

I'm a winter baby, and winter is my favourite season, so I tried out some geometric shapes that represent snowflakes.

In the end I came to my three favourites:

First Model of the School Year: A Castle!

Today I present to you: my castle! Castles remind me of pretty things generally. They're usually well designed to be a fortress. I wanted to flip that stereotype on it's head today, so I've made this twisty castle! It's impractical and probably would collapse in on itself if it were a true building.

When designing this building, I was wondering who would live in such a castle. I begun to think that only a magical person would be able to up keep such a building, so I imagined a little witch girl. Maybe she's moving in because she's in magic college and doesn't have enough money for a nicer castle ;)

In class we were told to bring in 3D modelling into our own art practice. While working on this project I really wanted to take that to heart. I examined this building from all angles to try and find my favourite. I ended up choosing this one:

It just has such a cool silhouette, I wanted to draw it! I'm in the character design program, so this whole process really was about creating this building to have character. I really wanted to show how I can bring this into my art practice, so I created an illustration to share today.

Thanks for tuning in! Until next week!
